2026 Varsity delivers drama in the sunshine at Eco-Power Stadium
On April 29th 2026, Club Doncaster Sports College welcomed partners DN Colleges Group (Doncaster College and North Lindsey College) to the Eco-Power Stadium for the annual Varsity challenge in glorious sunshine.
The highly anticipated event featured men’s and women’s Varsity fixtures alongside the traditional Club Doncaster Sports College in-house match, giving more than 100 sports students the unforgettable opportunity to “play on the pitch” at the home of Doncaster Rovers FC.
The day began with a thrilling Women’s Varsity clash that produced an incredible 11 goals. Despite a spirited performance from Club Doncaster Sports College, DN Colleges Group ultimately claimed the trophy in a dramatic encounter. A hat-trick from Foulds, alongside goals from Clayton and Lilley, kept the Sports College in contention throughout, but DN Colleges edged the contest with an outrageous 50 yard goal from goalkeeper, Lewis to secure victory.
The Men’s Varsity followed and saw Club Doncaster Sports College successfully retain the Varsity crown with an impressive all-round display. Johnson opened the scoring with a composed finish before quickly doubling his tally. Further goals from Denton and Gyekye, combined with a lively brace from Woodham, completed the scoring in a competitive fixture played in an excellent spirit between both sides.

The final game of the day saw the traditional in-house Varsity match between Team Kyle and Team Dave. In a tightly contested affair, Team Kyle emerged victorious with a 3-0 win. Machin converted from the penalty spot and goals from Stringer and Wallace sealed the title and ensured Team Kyle retained bragging rights for another year.

Speaking after the event, Adi Turnpenny praised both the occasion and the partnership behind it.
“The Varsity gave the students a once in a lifetime opportunity to play on the Eco-Power Stadium pitch and it was an event enjoyed by all,” he said. “It was also a chance to celebrate the fantastic partnership between Club Doncaster Sports College and DN Group.”
The 2026 Varsity once again showcased not only the talent and passion of the students involved, but also the strength of the partnership between the colleges, creating a memorable day of sport, competition and celebration.
