Course Overview

  • This innovative course will give you the opportunity to become part of the rapidly expanding sport and exercise industry.
  • There is now a need for qualified sport and health professionals within the health industry, recreational sport and elite sport. This multi-disciplinary degree provides theoretical, practical and vocational learning opportunities.
  • The course offers you the opportunity to study scientific principles to a higher level and apply this knowledge to sporting contexts, whilst developing much sought-after, industry-standard skills. This course is ran in partnership between Doncaster University Centre and Club Doncaster Sports College, where students study both in the HUB campus and at the Eco-Power Stadium, in the Club Doncaster Sports Park.

Example Units and Structure

YEAR ONE (LEVEL 4) At Level 4 students follow a course of study which includes the following Core Modules:

  • Academic Research and Study Skills
  • Health and Fitness Assessments in Sport and Exercise Science
  • Biomechanics of Human Movement
  • Functional Anatomy
  • Foundations of Human Physiology and Nutrition
  • Foundations of Sport and Exercise Psychology

YEAR TWO (LEVEL 5)

At Level 5 students follow a course of study which includes the following Core Modules:

  • Professional Practice in Sport
  • Research Methods
  • Sport and Exercise Psychology
  • Sport and Exercise Massage
  • Musculoskeletal and Functional Screening of Athletes
  • Applied Physiology in Strength and Conditioning

YEAR THREE (LEVEL 6)

At Level 6 students follow a course of study which includes the following Core Modules:

    • Major Independent Research Project
    • Applied Sport Psychology
    • Employability and Contemporary Issues in Sport
    • Physical Activity, Exercise and Healthy Living
    • Theoretical Basis for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Injuries

Entry Requirements

  • You’ll need to have:
  • One of the following:
  • 80 Ucas tariff points
  • Access to HE Diploma in a Sports related programme with at least 45 credits at Level 3
  • Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)
  • We welcome applications from people of any age who might not meet the standard entry criteria, but we would expect to see evidence of continuing academic and/or professional development and a capacity to pursue the course successfully. Applicants will need to evidence IT skills and a willingness to participate in a range of practical sport and exercise activities.
  • If your application is successful, you may be invited to attend an interview to discuss your ability and suitability for the course.

This degree programme prepares you for the world of work, and graduating students will be well equipped to enter employment in a variety of sport related settings. It is highly recommended that students seek short professional qualifications throughout this programme of study such as NGB Sport Coaching, Gym Instructor awards and Strength & Conditioning qualifications.
